Centrum voor Volwassenonderwijs Vrij technisch Instituut Brugge

The Center for Adult Education (CVO) VTI Bruges is part of the vzw  Free Technical Institutes of Bruges
The center CVO VTI Brugge was officially recognized in 1922 to train the teachers within the Free Technical Institute in a pedagogical and didactic way. Over the years, the center has grown into a fully-fledged center for adult education.
Over the years, the center has developed further in the organization of various courses for adults within vocational and practical training programs in cooperation with external partners such as the VDAB, Penitentiary complex Bruges, companies from the region and other CVOs. Just like society, the CVO VTI Bruges evolves along with the educational landscape. Thanks to the cooperation with our partners, we have implemented some quality training courses in recent years. Our most recent training programs ensure that students can obtain their secondary school diploma in 1 or 2 years. In doing so, they generally combine supplementary training with a vocational training of their choice. In this way we try to meet the demand of a very diverse group of course participants (students without a secondary education diploma, students who are not satisfied with the current job and wish to retrain, etc.).It goes without saying that the teaching practice, because of the heterogeneous target group, is very different to those we find in secondary education. Another aspect that we are introducing more and more, in together with companies or institutions in these programs, is workplace learning, where the trainees learn competences on the work floor. This way we strive to achieve  an increased motivation as well as a learning effect. This new way of working whereby diploma-oriented trajectories, workplace learning and vulnerable target groups receive opportunities are central themes that are recommended by the Ministry of Education (see concept note "Adult education as opportunities education" of 25 March 2016) to the future.
CVO VTI Bruges wants to work out further connections to this concept paper, starting from our mission and vision.
Some of the most important training domains within our center are:
-Technical and practical training within a very broad segment
- ICT
- Care sector
-Business management
- Specific teacher training
We offer the courses at various locations in the Bruges region and surroundings.
Every year the CVO VTI Brugge attracts about 1,200 motivated adults who want to learn new skills and aspire to a stronger position on the labor market. Our target group is very diverse and heterogeneous. For example we have students with  high profiles (master’s degree ), but also students who have not obtained a secondary degree.
Some 85 employees work in the organization, including three members of management, five coordinators, three administrative staff and 70 teachers.
